BFP’s work began in NYC in the form of an art gallery and collective space in the old industrial Brooklyn Fireproof Sash & Door building in Williamsburg, conceived to foster the careers of emerging artists. We moved East to Bushwick and East Williamsburg to escape the rising rents and, in addition to studio rentals, continue to offer free exhibition and performance space as well as resident fellowships. Throughout the years, Brooklyn Fire Proof has hosted numerous art shows in our white box gallery space, Temporary Storage, often showcasing our own tenants and supporting The Bushwick Open Studios (BOS) from the beginning. The Cafe Bar was an alternative means to financially support artistic sharing, one of the primary goals of BFP’s founders.
